In a city with such a diverse inhabitants and density of population exist some of the most brilliant and gifted artists in the nation. Come see the best sundry of paintings by local artists at the downtown LA art walk, celebrating 5 years of urban arts and culture.
The LA art walk takes place every second Thursday of the month, and September 10th marks the 5th anniversary of the hottest grassroots event in southern California. Launched by a group from what was originally skid row, the event draws over 10,000 art enthusiasts and includes live music from Ukulady, Crimebo the Clown and others, literary events, walking tours with expert guides, impromptu performances and naturally good company. Featured exhibits on September 10th include “From the Streets of Iran,” works by urban Iranians who draw inspiration from their rich heritage of calligraphy, visual art, and revolutionary state, as well as the exhibit “Traces of Being: Iran in the Passage of Memories” which explores the primacy of personal memory against a backdrop of divergent cultural experiences and collective histories. The art walk is always free and takes place on 5th & Main along with the surrounding areas from 6 to 10 PM. Check out their website for a map and artist details.
At the Salon at Cliford’s Cafeteria along the art walk, running from 5:30 to 7 PM, is “The Mysteries of Magic Revealed,” where Maja D’Aoust leads a discussion of the inner mechanisms of magic and how they operate in our world. Whether you’re a believer or not this salon style debate is engaging for all. Participants are encourages to relate personal experiences as we unravel the mysteries of the universe together.
In the mood for something a little more risqué? Hop a cab or take a brisk stroll just two miles down the road to the second annual Art Undressed erotic art exposition on 1446 E. Washington Blvd. in Los Angeles. Opening Thursday, September 10th at 6 PM and continuing to Saturday September 12th at 2 AM, the three day event features award winning erotic art, live music, fashion shows, a body painting at competition, and other live entertainment. On Saturday, the last day of the exposition, there will be a costume party, themed The Good, The Bad, and The Kinky, where attendees are asked to show their true selves with no reservation while representing the entire spectrum from innocent to down right deviant. A mere $15 gets you access to the world’s best erotic art from all ages including paintings, sculptures, photographs and more.
