What better than sausages, hot dogs, wieners, and beer for dad? Well, maybe eating them and drinking plenty with the whole family on Father's Day, while mom agrees to be the designated driver. That is dad's quintessential comfort food (and date). It's about time that dad eats what he really loves on Father's Day, and then some for the whole family. Let him really get a day off, apart from the ones you gave him during the Lakers games. Let him relax and kick back, and let the restaurant do the grillin' while he does the chillin' this time. Here are some unique and delicious suggestions for great wiener places in Los Angeles (on or not on Father's Day):

- Wurstkuche- Veer away from the usual beef franks and try something new for dad. This place not only has a large selection of local and imported brews, they also have the most unique mix of proteins inside their famous sausages. Exotic is an understatement when we talk about alligator and pork or rattlesnake and rabbit sausages. But if this route is not your acquired taste, they also have the usual as well as gourmet sausages of mango jalapeno, chicken apple and spices, vegetarian Italian, and more. Pair these delicious sausages with their double fried Belgian fries and you're set. Best part is that it's not a bad place to take dad, even your date, to. And the food is inexpensively good; $5.75-$7.50 for the sausages filled with heaping toppings, $5.50 for a large fries with two dipping sauces, and $2.50-$11 for the brew. - Pink's- Make dad feel like a moviestar when you take him to Pink's. Check out their famous wall and dine with Tom Hanks and Oprah Winfrey while you eat your Martha Stewart and Rosie O'Donnell. Parking is limited and the line is long, but do not be discouraged. They are equipped and trained, and before you know it you'll be at the front hurrying to decide what to get so as not to hold up the long line behind you. Start with chili cheese if in doubt, or the spicy Polish pastrami when in need for some salty goodness, or the Lord of the Rings for an homage to BBQ (with 10" stretch dog with BBQ sauce topped with onion rings). But they're  not only good for hot dogs, they also have juicy burgers, delicious chili fries, crispy onion rings, and yummy unique specials. Downside? - Carney's Restaurant- "Probably the best hamburgers and hot dogs...in the world." Declared with doubt but highly possible when tasted. And you can't beat the dining experience; the train outside and the diner feeling inside makes the food so much more reminiscent of the diner days when dad used to hang out with the boys and chow their burgers and dogs, and drink their shakes. This time he can have it with beer instead of a strawberry milk shake, that can be for mom (since she's driving). Whether dad's a fan of the New York or Chicago style dogs (or even Polish), this place pleases everyone's tastes, even with salad for those in the mood for something healthy today. - Skooby's- It may not be much inside for Father's Day but Skooby's was named "LA Magazine's Best of Cheap Eats 2009". And if they agree, we agree too. For less than $10 you can give dad two of the different kinds of cheap and delicious eats. The Garlic Lover's Dog and Quesadilla Dog are favorites but their chili is as famous as the stars on the walk of fame this place is on. The snap and juices from these dogs, and the flavor just shines just like the stars, and are as glitzy good as Hollywood. They have okay cheesesteaks too, but then who eats that at Skooby's. Downside again is the lack of alcohol, but it's a good start for dad and move on to another location for some brew, right on Hollywood Blvd. In fact it's just a couple of blocks away from Highland, get that most wanted photo with superman or bowling at Lucky Strike right after. - The Slaw Dogs- Where do you even begin at the choices at The Slaw Dogs? Should dad start at the rippered (cooked long enough for the casing to split open and crisp) vienna with curry ketchup, habanero pickled onions, and truffle oil topping with maybe an egg on top? Or should you suggest to him the TNT with a 10" rippered dog, chili, cheese, bacon pastrami, fries, grilled onions, all wrapped in a giant tortilla. The choices and pairings are endless as you get to pick and choose from a myriad of standard and custom toppings piled high on top of your hot dog. It becomes such a pyramid of toppings that your dog gets lost, and it becomes a delicious treasure hunt to a flavorful, juicy bottom. These are just some of the few unique places serving good comfort food. Beat the line and the wait, and treat dad to something different and something he will surely enjoy, bite after bite. And upside is you can spend more for his gift while treating him to a day he will surely remember and crave over and over, even after Father's Day.
