Residents wake up to a dusting of snow in the High Desert

A dusting of snow in Hesperia lies on trees.

The only forecast office to issue a forecast for snowfall in the High Desert was the Southern California Weather Authority. The forecast was a rare, but brave call for the area.

On Monday morning, The SCWXA issued a winter weather advisory for all mountain locations of the Southland, including the High Desert regions. The advisory stated that a storm system coming in from the northwest will be dry for Los Angeles, however not so for the High Desert, providing enough dynamics and cold air for a dusting of snow.

The SCWXA weather forecast office received a number of e-mails about the dusting of snow, some received on Facebook.

"You couldn't have predicted this any more accurate," said Sheri, a High Desert resident. "We got exactly a dusting of snow across the whole desert. Sun is out now and will be a cold windy day. Temp is 32, wind chill is 20. Burrrrrr. Thank you Kevin."

The SCWXA's main goal is to provide weather warnings for all residents of the Southland, including where most do not even care to look, the High Desert residents. The SCWXA is active even during summer thunderstorm season and the goal is for many residents in the High Desert to be informed of the Web site, which many still do not know about.

The advisory also stated the worst would hit the Kern County Mountains, putting Tehachapi under the most snowfall of the event. A fire official was working on the top of the Cajon Pass and reported a dusting, however reported to the SCWXA that CHP had closed Highway 58 in Tehachapi due to snowfall.

The SCWXA inside slider forecast went really well for the area. Expect gusty winds behind the frontal zone and a warm-up by the end of the week.

Yea this was very accurate indeed. I woke up to see about 3 inches of snow on the ground. The temperature that morning was about 29 Degrees with the gusty winds accompanying this event. It looked so beautiful driving down the 138 to see winds picking up the snow from the roads and making it look like a winter wonderland.
