New iPhone apps help assess your dates

Why rely on your own instincts when it comes to dating? The launch of two new iPhone apps can assess your dates for you, letting you know whether or not you’d be a good match.

OkCupid, a popular online dating site, has launched a new iPhone app for their online subscribers. In addition to being able to search matches and send emails to candidates, the new app comes with a handy feature to help you improve your matches called “The Two of Us”. This feature allows you to answer questions, see how your match would answer the same questions, and determine how important agreeing on the answer is to each of you.

Two new apps were also recently launched by Jericho Beach Apps, called “The Girlfriend Calculator” and her partner, “The Boyfriend Calculator”. The creator of the apps Greg Moleski, who admitted that he needed help when it came to assessing his own dates, feels that this is a good tool for singles to recognize patterns in their dating choices.

“The Girlfriend/ Boyfriend Calculators are comparison tools,” he said. “When you are online dating or speed dating, you are meeting a lot of people in a short amount of time. Even if you kind of intuitively know if someone is good or not, the calculator gives you a more objective opinion and keeps track of all of your matches.”

The calculators measure broad subjects such as “Looks”, “Brains” and “Sense of Humor”, according to how important each quality is to the user. Then the user rates his/her date on each subject. The dates are then placed in a list for easy reference, sorted by score from highest to lowest, expressed as a percentage against the user’s ideal mate.

Molenski chose the subject categories based on surveys he conducted among single men and women. “Nobody measures up 100% to your ideal,” he said. “But if you meet someone who is in the 80% range, that is a really good match.”

Maybe some of us need a math lesson when it comes to choosing the right partner, but I still like to rely on chemistry. Isn’t there something to be said for opposites attract?
