Cristina Espinosa, lesbian rocker of San Francisco's one-woman indie band, The Heated, recently announced her 12 songs project, a free, one song a month release for the entire year of 2010.
Her first release from the series, Cars Roll Down, video below directed by Craig Wenaweser, is a poetic, emotional piece that echoes the frustrations and angst in disappointment we all at times share. Simple, moving and beautifully shot, the 3-minute piece focuses heavily on the music, without confusing the viewer with extraneous music-video imagery or unnecessary distraction. Concentrating more on the song's message and strength, the viewer gets an intimate look into composer and musician Cristina's talent and convictions, as well as her deep connection to the music itself.
Exuding powerful and unique vocals, The Heated is reminiscent of a new-fangled and slightly sedated Liz Phair, touting fortitude and passion that lurks in its guitar strings and melodies, that soothe as much as they stir.
Cristina, former front-woman of since disbanded rock band The Pre-Teens, performs regularly in the Bay Area at legendary local music venues such as Hotel Utah and El Rio, and plans to tour Southern California and perform mid-summer.
