Medical marijuana event across street from LA police station Inauguration Day

Surprisingly happy people with chronic illnesses celebrated the inauguration yesterday at a medical marijuana dispensary that is right across the street from LAPD Hollenbeck Division on the near east side.

Talk about freedom!

The event yesterday was at the Arts District Healing Center and the Freedom Gallery on 618 East First Street in LA.  The organization running the event was the Union of Medical Marijuana Patients.  The photo above and at the bottom of this post are attempts by me to capture the fact that LAPD was right across the street, you can see the building, again through the festive ribbons in front of the Freedom Gallery door.

Okay, the truth is out.  i am a medical marijuana user.  I have a disease where you are in pain all the time, pretty much all over your body.  in the 1990s at least 11 women went to Dr. Kevorkian because of the same illness. 

I wanted to reach out to them and say, no, just try marijuana instead.  You will mind the pain no longer. . .

Millions of dollars come into a financially struggling state thanks to medical marijuana dispensaries.  At the event yesterday, I got lots of names of people to call for more information.  

We will write more about the serious politics and economics involved with medical marijuana in California, in future LA City Buzz posts. 

But in the meantime, isn't it a trip to see the police right outside and not get all paranoid???/
