In political presentation, much like what occurs in a courtroom presentation, boundaries of what material is deemed reasonable and acceptable are drawn.
When these boundaries are moved on a political spectrum they are referred to as the Overton Window, named after its originator, Joe Overton, former vice president of the Mackinac Center for Public Policy.
The concept stands for the notion that only a portion of the policy spectrum is perceived as politically possible at any given time.
In the video below Glenn Beck lectures on the Overton Window's use in a political context.

Beck said "communism, fascism, whatever."
There's a difference.
I know Beck's plan and I love it. It's all about to change... for the better.
John Adams signed into law socialist healthcare for the merchant marines. That had to be passed in Congress before he signed it, unless there is some radical rewriting of history and Constitutional law that some people would like to make. Not single payer healthcare like in Canada, but socialist like Britain and the VA for US Veterans.
Please explain to me, again, where the window really moved for centuries. Because the founding fathers were not against socialist answers for some things, healthcare included.
Even the father of modern day economics - Adam Smith, the father of Capitalism - recognized the need for strong social safety nets to balance out the extremism of pure Capitalism.
Thanks go to GB and FNC for the positive vibes. I can feel it waking up, the sleeping giant. If I might quote Red Rider, "Well before you go under...,Can you feel the resistance? Can you feel the thunder?" The spending has got to stop! GB always tells the truth.
