Friendship, happiness, and the stuff that happens in between
Lately, I have met some amazing people. I have established (or beginning to) friendships that I have always wanted, friendship that will watch me walk out of this world and enter another…in time. The people who will become our most cherished friends often show up in unexpected situations or experiences, like Friday night while at 626 Reserve Wine Bar in downtown LA. Once a month fabulous women get together and share in creative exchange and harmony—friends. I have gained so much from being a part of such greatness. I have learned, I have danced, I have laughed, hugged, and I have left (emotionally) full—life is happening. Each moment now is connected to the moment now, leading you to the next moment connected to where you are, and where your feet are planted. It’s up to us to determine what it is we have planted, where we are standing, and what our healing is about. Sometimes new friends can awaken in us the answers—deeply penetrating—that changes our existence as we know it.
Happiness is the result of two things: inner study and a conscious practice created from this inner study; otherwise, you may be tempted to view happiness as being a feeling stemming from experiences you have, or are, having. Myth. The word happiness can be broken down like this: happ-en-ing. People tend to view their happiness as being the result of what is happening, but that is the illusion. Happiness is freedom, and freedom comes to the seeker, the one who practices, and the one who is able to see life’s synchronicities lining up before her eyes. These synchronicities are pieces to the puzzle called life. With each successful fit, we move closer and closer to friendship, happiness, and the stuff that happens in between.

...to the stuff that happens in between!
As you point out there is no simple recipe for happiness. My colleague, Dr. Fred Horowitz, at happiness-after-midlife.com is fond of this anonymous Chinese poem that he has shared with me and I would like to share with you:
It is so clear that it takes long to see.
You must know that the fire you are seeking
Is the fire in your own lantern,
And that your rice has been cooked from the very beginning.
Oh, the truth of the quote!
Beautiful! So much is found when we are able to really look, or "see" in truth. Our happiness is in all the moments, not missing what's really happening in our lives. Truth!
