New 2011 Ford Explorer was introduced on Venice Beach, California.
Ford continues its relentless quest for improved product as the 2011 Explorer evolves. The all new vehicle is nothing less than a re-invention of the SUV that reigned for years as America's favorite. But that was then. The 2011 Explorer is based on a unibody platform that brings lighter weight, a lower, more aerodynamic stance and considerable fuel savings. An available EcoBoost 4 cylinder brings a fuel economy improvment of 30% over the 2010 model while putting out 237 horsepower, fully the equal of many V6s.
Ford's commitment to safety is reflected by the Explorer's inflatable seat belts, the first such application available. They're complemented by a high-strength steel safety cage, side curtain airbags, a tire pressure alert warning system, seat belt sensors, AvanceTrac safety braking and a post-crash alert system.
The design of the Explorer follows current Ford practice with sleek, sophisticated-looking, upscale lines. It's impressive that Ford designers were able to translate the new Taurus' design language to an SUV and have it look natural.
Ford sent Mark Fields, their President of the Americas to Venice, California for a beach side press launch of the new Explorer. Media representatives were impressed. It looks like Ford has a another winner to join its new Taurus and Fiesta.
Despite fuel economy concerns, SUVs have remained the family hauler of choice for many Americans. As they've matured, some, like Ford's new Explorer have evolved to be more car-like while retaining traditional SUV virtures like space utility and serious towing capacity.
Along with its economy, safety, and style, the new Explorer's utility, three-row seating, class-leading economy and safety will make it a must on any shopping list for SUVs.
