Department of Building and Safety inspectors shut down a Hollywood carwash after a 100-foot section of concrete canopy collapsed on top of several cars waiting for a wash.
The concrete structure at Sunset Car Wash, 7955 W. Sunset Blvd., fell over the cars in a "blanket-like" fashion, according to Los Angeles city fire representative Brian Humphrey.
Seventy-five firefighters responded to the collapse, reported just before 1 p.m., but no one was injured. The crushed vehicles were all unoccupied.
Fuel pumps next to the structure were not operable, fire officials said.
The structure apparently was made of concrete sprayed onto a wire framework.
