Shutterfly.com now offers a new way to share pictures.
Being a mom-on-the-go means always having my camera ready to capture memorable moments and adorable faces of my daughters. Having taken more than 5,000 pictures in the past year or so, I can call myself a photo enthusiast without reservation. However, there is one drawback to taking this many pictures: storing them on a hard drive is difficult (as it takes up too much space) and I find myself using up way too many memory cards for pictures alone. Besides, I never feel completely comfortable deleting pictures from my computer after transferring them onto a memory card because these tiny devices can get lost anywhere, anytime, especially with two toddlers who view everyday as a new round of scavenger hunt.
I spent some time experimenting with free baby sites like babysites and totsites, but soon realized that these sites are 'free' for a reason. They hold very little pictures, reduce the picture quality so much that it's almost painful to share them with family and friends, and the designs are mediocre at best. I've always loved the idea of having my own family photo site but these sites did very little to hold my interest, as I eventually resorted to storing them onto photobucket and sharing them through emails which turned out to be tiring and time-consuming.
So when I came across the new and improved shutterfly photosharing site, I couldn't have been more excited. It stores all my pictures with easy uploads and now includes all kinds of cool photo gifts like photo cards, invitations, mugs and photobooks, which happens to be one of my favorites. It even allows viewers to download pictures in 'full-size' simply by becoming a member. Most importantly, their designs have improved greatly over the years, making their cards and photobooks comparable to top-notch designer ones as found on Tiny prints and other digital scrapbooking sites.
The best thing about shutterfly services is that it provides its members- especially new ones- with great promotions like free 8.5x11 photobooks (originally priced at $29.95), free 4x6 prints and other endless photosharing possibilities. If you join as a new member, they'll even give you up to 20 prints just for creating a family photo site. Just for these offers alone, I think it's worth creating another account here, even if you're already using Snapfish, Kodakgallery or Costco.
Their customer service is also top-notch. For instance, I created a 8.5X11 photobook (with a free offer with shipping and handling fees) and realized afterward that the promotional offer didn't include the particular design I was working on. So I emailed an associate explaining my situation, telling them I have been working on this project for weeks, and less than 24 hours later, the photobook was in my cart as a promotional item. Shutterfly was kind enough to provide me with a free photo book even though it wasn't originally included in the offer.
So if you're like me and love to take, store and share pictures of your famiy and friends, check out the improved shutterfly site and try creating a family photo site of your own. It makes photo sharing fun, easy and fast- perfect for today's busy moms-on-the-go.
