Everyone is looking to save money these days, especially when it comes to dining out at restaurants around town. Sadly, you can’t always get away with ordering off the kid’s menu as an adult, so what to do?
A great way to eat a tasty Mexican dinner on the cheap is to order a la carte at Los Tres Amigos.
Skip the larger, more expensive dinner plates and simply order one or two items off the a la carte menu.(there are a few around the Lansing area: 5010 W Saginaw Highway, 6405 S Cedar St, 1227 E Grand River Ave).
Let’s run the numbers: you can order a beef taco ($1.90), a cheese enchilada ($2.25) and a bean burrito ($3.50) for $7.65 a la carte or get the combination dinner for $8.99. Going the a la carte route saves you $1.34. Not bad.
The a la carte menu is best utilized as a way to control your portions and to save you from spending money on sides that you might not eat anyway (the rice and beans for example).
You can get one chimichanga for $4.50 or the whole dinner with beans, rice and toppings for $9.99. That’s a big price difference, especially if you don’t care about the rice and beans (tip: do try the chimichanga, it is quite good, but not as good as the one at El Azteco).
This route is also great if you want to try something new along with an old favorite. Are you a big fan of the cheese enchilada, but want to give the chile relleno a taste? Go a la carte and get both for only $5.75. The chile rellanos are excellent by the way.
Los Tres Amigos also offers many great lunch specials, so make sure to check those out as well. They are also typically very quick about getting your food to you, be it lunch or dinner. If you want an even cheaper option, stop in on Monday for Taco Day--99 cent tacos all day long.
