Who doesn't like beer?
OK, some people don't. But, for those that do, a craft beer is happiness in a glass. A craft beer goes beyond the bland, boring flavor of mass produced beer. Sure, it costs a bit more, but to borrow a phrase, "You pay whatcha get for" (not a typo).
Michigan has quite a few craft brewers: Michigan Brewing Company, Bell's (try the Oberon), Arcadia Brewing Company and New Holland Brewing Company to name only a few. Here's a state guide if you want to do a brewery tour of Michigan (bring a designated driver/chauffeur/Sherpa and an extra pair of trousers).
Team Lansing Restaurant Examiner had the joy of going on a behind the scenes tour of the Michigan Brewing Company brewery in Webberville (1093 Highview Dr, a bit over a 20 minute drive from Lansing), view the slide show for pictures.
The fun doesn't end with the tour. You can purchases the items you need to start your own home brewing (beer and wine). Then there is the food: the brewery has an excellent menu, and of course plenty of beer on tap. The Pulled Pork sandwich with sweet potato wedges (see slide show) is very tasty and filling. The sweet potato wedges were worth the drive alone: big, not over cooked and full of flavor.
If you're looking for something to do this weekend, why not plan a field trip out to the Michigan Brewing Company brewery? Call ahead and see if you can schedule a tour, it is like visiting Santa's Workshop (for responsible adults).
