For culinary adventurous folks, Indian food (curry and the like) can be a great experience. Not everything is super-spicy, it just depends on what you order. Even ‘mild’ dishes can be flavorful and tantalizing.

If you’d like to give Indian food a shot, but are uncertain what to order, check out the lunch buffet at Mumbai in East Lansing (340 Albert Ave, right next to Tony’s).

The buffet costs $8.50 and is a great way to introduce yourself to Indian cuisine. You can sample many different dishes—appetizers, soups, salads, main dishes and deserts. It is well worth your time and money. Plus, it is all you can eat, so feel free to load up on something that you really like.

Both meat and vegetarian dishes are available, and if you normally shy away from vegetarian cuisine, give these a shot: you won’t find any boring veggies here.

If you are uncertain about what to try, ask Chef Paddy Rawal, as he is always walking the floor to check up on guests. He is an attentive host and frequently stops to chat with his guests.

Like any fine Indian restaurant, there are curries on the buffet—give ‘em a try. They’ll change your life.

After you’ve sampled different dishes, come back to Mumbai again for dinner--try the Punjabi Samosa, a turnover filled with green peas and potatoes for an appetizer. For the main course, the Palak Paneer (spinach with farmers cheese) is a great vegetarian option and the Chicken Tikka Masala will please as well.

Mumbai also just went through a recent renovation, so the inside is much nicer looking than before and gives the restaurant a more upscale look and feel.
