With fall in full swing, our palettes eagerly await various seasonal delights, such as that lovable orange gourd, the pumpkin (or pum'kin to some).
Pies are the traditional delivery system for this fall time favorite, but pumpkin is showing up in all kinds of food items these days: cookies, muffins, coffee and even beer (tip: try out the Screamin' Pumpkin Spiced Ale down at Michigan Brewing Company in downtown Lansing on Washington Square).
But another unique entry into the realm of pumpkin goodies is the pumpkin bisque available at the always tasty Soup Spoon Cafe. This creamy delight will leave your tongue begging for more. The colorful bisque resembles a pumpkin pie in both appearance and taste, which is aided by the dollop of cream resting on top once it arrives ($2.99 for a cup, $4.99 for a bowl).
There is just enough spice to the bisque to let you know it is there, but it is not overpowering. Far from it. The taste grabs a hold and won't let go. This rich bisque is closer to a desert than it is to an appetizer, but don't worry: it won't spoil your appetite. You'll have a hard time putting your spoon down.
This flavorful concoction will make you a regular to the cozy cafe on Michigan Avenue, and you'll soon be buying this bisque--and perhaps many of the other amazing soups offered--by the gallon. If this bisque strikes your fancy, then make sure to visit the Soup Spoon Cafe right away, as the pumpkin bisque is only available through the holidays.
So on the next blustery Michigan afternoon, make sure to treat yourself to a piping hot cup of pumpkin goodness at Lansing's Soup Spoon Cafe, you'll be glad you did. (tip: follow Soup Spoon Cafe on Twitter for the latest menu items and the soup of the day)
