Brothers, sisters, friends of the revolution--the wait is over.
Yes, sushi can now be bought in downtown Lansing. Huzzah!
AnQi Sushi Express opened its doors at 111 E. Allegan (next to the Downtown Dog House) last month, and it has brought a welcome change of culinary pace to the downtown food scene. There are times you want something that isn't pizza or a burger--you dig? Enter AnQi, which is the only sushi game downtown (for the moment)*.
The key to enjoying AnQi is remembering the third word in its name--Express.
This is not a "fancy, sit down, look-at-our-500-different-rolls" kind of place. This is a "I-want-a-salmon-roll-five-minutes-ago" kind of place--and that is great. If you want fancy, sit down sushi, head on over to Maru in Okemos (worth the drive) or Omi and Sushi-Ya in East Lansing.
Y'know that pre-made sushi they have at grocery stores and malls? That's the same deal at AnQi--but, if you want something made fresh (or if they are out of that certain roll), it will be made just for you (which requires a bit of a wait, but hey, you asked for it).
And don't take the comparrison to super market sushi as anything remotely negative (for either AnQi or supermarket sushi)--the sushi is well-made, fresh and tasty. It is also WAY cheaper than going to other locations listed above--and even their pricer rolls, such as the Black Dragon Roll (pictured), are worth trying.
Here's a tip though--get the Sample Platter. For $7.99, you get 22 pieces of sushi. Sweet Mother of Batman, that's a lot of sushi. But don't stop there--AnQi offers a wide variety of sushi--and they also serve bubble tea (if you are into that sorta thing).
AnQi is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM--officially anyway. On a recent walkby around 5:45 or so, the Open sign was still turned on. Hopefully, AnQi has decided to stay open an extra 30 minutes or hour so people can grab sushi for dinner.

*Yes, the place next to MBC used to sell sushi, and the rumor is they have stopped. If that is not the case, please comment below.
