You learn something new every day. Finding out that Holiday Lanes in Frandor (3101 E Grand River Ave) serves breakfast would certainly qualify.
Yes, this unassuming coliseum of rental shoes and wooden pins has a fully functioning snack bar that is ready to whip up a breakfast in the early hours of the morning. Just don’t expect anything fancy, it is after all, only a bowling alley.
You don’t go to Denny’s for the filet mignon, just as you don’t go to Holiday Lanes expecting to have your breakfast socks knocked off.
What the Holiday Lanes breakfast offerings lack in variety, they make up in speed and cost. For $5.99 you get the Breakfast Special, which includes eggs made to order, toast, hash browns and meat. They also have breakfast sandwiches (akin to an Egg McMuffin), which are said to be rather tasty.
Another star of the breakfast menu based on name alone is the Liberty Toast. Yes, you guessed it. Liberty Toast is merely French Toast with a name change. So if you’re ever feeling nostalgic for the early 2000s, give this a go.
The bacon was pretty good, all things considered, as were the eggs. Another saving grace was that they kept the coffee coming, always a plus, especially in the early morn. The hash browns were rather uninspired however, lacking any kind of flavor and being a bit on the cold side.
But as stated before, you don’t go to a bowling alley expecting the Second Coming on a plate.
Some days you just want a fast, cheap, greasy breakfast, and Holiday Lanes is just the place. For an extra dash of fun, eat at the snack counter itself for a bit of an old diner feel.
And the best part: after you finish eating, you can bowl a few frames.
