Iran again asks to buy, swap nuclear fuel for patients; US rejects peace and life; hell-bent for war

We hold these Truths to be self-evident...

Iran will run-out of medical isotopes within a month; leaving nearly 850,000 patients without a critical tool for their diagnosis and treatment. Iran’s government repeated their request to buy or swap fuel (previous acceptance here), even though they are legally authorized to produce their own. The US-proposed delay for Iran to receive the enriched fuel after a wait of up to one year would kill Iranians in need of medical isotopes.

You would think that a Nobel Peace Prize winning President would jump at this opportunity to save people’s lives and ensure peace by accepting either option the Iranian government has peacefully offered.

But instead, Mr. Obama sent his minions to reject Iran. Press Secretary Robert Gibbs:

"Time and patience is running out,” Iran will face “consequences,” and “they have no interest in building international confidence that their nuclear program is for peaceful means.”

Assistant Secretary of State Philip J. Crowley:

Well, there’s – it doesn’t contain anything new. We’ve heard this before. We think that the arrangement that we put on the table in Geneva is the right one. The Iranian response, in essence, is, in our view, a red herring.

Anyone familiar with the psychological idea of projection raises an eyebrow at Mr. Crowley’s off-the-cuff response. Projection is an unconscious denial of one's own motivations and acts that are then "projected" as being the motivations and acts of someone else. The term “red herring” means you’re intentionally deceiving someone with false information. The truth that Mr. Crowley unconsciously communicates is the US could end this confrontation easily by accepting either of the two easy solutions Iran is asking for critical medical supplies. It’s Mr. Crowley who is deceiving with a “red herring” that there’s some difficulty with solving this problem. Mr. Crowley is hiding the truth that it’s the US who is the aggressor.

A significant and related fact to the US refusal to declare peace is that the US owes Iran billions of dollars for unfulfilled contracts to deliver nuclear energy technology. The US cancelled those contracts that were paid by Iranian taxpayers as official US government punishment against Iranian taxpayers for their nation’s independence from the US-installed dictator from 1953 to 1979, Shah Pahlavi. The US overthrew Iran’s democracy in 1953 when Prime Minister Mossadegh requested Iran receive more than their 15% of profits from their own oil fields. Moreover, from 1980 to 1988, the US supported Iraq’s invasion of Iran, including blowing-up oil platforms, supplying loans, intelligence, military equipment, political cover in the UN Security Council, and the ingredients for Iraq to make chemical weapons to unlawfully use and kill Iranians.

The US violent overthrow of Iran’s government for 26 years and subsequent direct support of armed attack against Iran for 8 years in order to force Iran’s subjugation to US political hegemony killed hundreds of thousands of Iranians.

This history, of course, provides the best understanding that current US rhetoric and actions is the US gunning to overthrow Iran’s government one more time.

Corporate media, confirmed by the CIA Director as having been infiltrated to propagandize Americans for war policy, will never, ever, ever, ever, ever provide clear understanding of the important facts. For example, the New York Times will not cite Iran’s life-and-death need for medical isotopes, will not explain the simplicity of resolving this issue, gives none of the history of US destruction of Iran’s government, none of the following uncovering of US lies in their rhetoric. Their article deceives with a massive lie of omission right from the headline: Iran Letter Repeats Nuclear Swap Terms Rejected by West

The rhetoric for war with Iran is such paper-thin lying propaganda that I doubt Orwell could imagine any government’s use to swindle their nation and world. The lies are so easily destroyed as sinful and evil treason, the audacity to tell them rates with Hitler’s “Big Lie.” As I recently wrote concerning US rhetoric to unlawfully attack Iran:

We know that the US “leadership” and corporate media are lying for war with Iran with their two principle reasons:

  1. Anyone who spends five minutes can verify that Iran’s President Ahmadinejad never threatened to attack or destroy Israel. The content and context of his October 2005 speech are in support of Palestinian equal treatment under the law from Israel, and compares the Israeli government to former repressive regimes in Iran, the USSR, and Iraq that were all replaced. I challenge anyone to summarize the paragraph in question and rationally conclude any physical threat to Israel. The implications of this fact are world-changing: the proof of Orwellian lies for war with Iran by criminal conspiracy between both political parties’ management and corporate media is beyond any doubt.
  2. Iran has never diverted nuclear material from legal and peaceful use; verified by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in all their reports and testified by their agency directors. The agency seems under political pressure from the US; as votes and official language ignore the facts and purpose of the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) to voice concern over what isn’t known. This is as if your supervisor threatened to fire you, saying, “We can verify that you haven’t stolen anything from our observation and accounting of all materials. However, you can’t prove that you haven’t stolen things outside our accounting and observation that we don’t know about. Prove your intentions are to not steal. If you can’t, our suspicions are verified.” This reason concerns “Additional Protocol” that Iran gave administrative agreement to without verification from their legislators, and then withdrew from when the US wouldn’t keep their part of NPT to support Iran’s nuclear energy development.

We also know that all the reasons given to go to war with Iraq were not only false, but known as false at the time they were told.

The audacity of these lies seems to support the chilling theory that the US is positioning to begin World War III

I appreciate your attention to these facts and encourage your further study and action consistent with your own self-expression. My recommendations:

Policy response: Gandhi and Martin Luther King advocated public understanding of the facts and non-cooperation with evil. I’m among hundreds who advocate:
  1. Understand the laws of war (and here). These were legislated after WW2 and are crystal-clear that only self-defense, in a narrow legal meaning, can justify war. The current US wars are not even close to being lawful and are legal treason against the US. Those involved with US military, government, and law enforcement have an oath to protect and defend the US Constitution. To fulfill their oath they must immediately refuse all orders associated with unlawful wars and military-related constant violation of treaties, and arrest those who issue unlawful orders. The Oath of Enlistment to the US Constitution supersedes the fascist insertion of Nazi propaganda to "always place the mission first" of blindly following unlawful orders.
  2. Employ the obvious and simple solutions to end our economic controlled demolition and evolve to a civil economy. End poverty through global cooperation to achieve the UN Millennium Goals by developed countries investing 0.7% of their income (not that the UN is serious for their accomplishment, but the goals are what we should invest to produce). Support global security through cooperation, dignity, justice, and freedom. Create a US Department of Peace to help.
  3. Communicate. Trust your unique, beautiful, and powerful self-expression to share as you feel appropriate. Understand that while many people are ready to embrace difficult facts, many are not. Anticipate that you will be attacked and prepare your virtuous response in the spirit of competition, just as you do in other fields.
  4. Prosecute the war leaders for obvious violation of the letter and spirit of US war laws and constant lies to engage in further wars. Because the crimes are so broad and deep, I recommend Truth and Reconciliation (T&R) to exchange full truth and return of stolen US assets for non-prosecution. This is the most expeditious way to understand and end all unlawful and harmful acts. Those who reject T&R are subject to prosecution.

Local perspective: Part of my professional duties as a teacher of economics and government is to produce competent adult citizenry. This includes realization that our nation’s policies and money are managed at a broad community level, and these issues have tremendous local impact. Of course, we all want human beings to be individually successful and enjoy their unique, beautiful and powerful self-expressions. Concurrently, we recognize our commitment to local success is strongly dependent upon the success of the community, and that government policy and economics are drivers.

Our status in early 21st Century human history is that we suffer from a long history in government and money of human interrelationship well-described as vicious antagonism. Governments frequently use war as a foreign policy, despite its illegality and dependent upon public ignorance, with horrific consequences. Economic policy is still created within a “Robber Baron” paradigm to concentrate money to an elite few families. Two examples:

1.      National taxes effect you dearly, especially the tax to pay interest on the national debt. This costs the American public over $400 billion every year. This is $4,000 per year for every $50,000 of income. Do the math to understand your household’s tax burden for a monetary policy invented by banks for banks to create our money supply as debt. Your competence in this area contributes to our collective voice to simply shift monetary policy to easily pay the national debt, enjoy full employment, collectively save us over a trillion dollars every year, and finally realize what our brightest American minds have been advocating for centuries beginning with Benjamin Franklin. This would have unprecedented local benefits, and requires collective power to accomplish.
2.      Ending poverty everywhere on our planet would cost just 0.7% of our income and save a million children’s lives every month. This human accomplishment will cause unimaginable joy at our local level.

To consider:

"If we are to have peace on earth, our loyalties must become ecumenical rather than sectional. Our loyalties must transcend our race, our tribe, our class, and our nation; and this means we must develop a world perspective. No individual can live alone, no nation can live alone and as long as we try, the more we are going to have war in the world. Now the judgment of God is upon us and we must either learn to live together as brothers or we are all going to perish together as fools."
--Inscription on Dr. Martin Luther King’s statue, Moorehouse College, Atlanta

"The day that hunger is eradicated from the earth, there will be the greatest spiritual explosion the world has ever known. Humanity cannot imagine the joy that will burst into the world on the day of that great revolution." -- poet Federico García Lorca

Comments policy: I welcome questions and comments that are civil and pertain to the article topic. Impolite and impertinent comments will be deleted.

Please consider that I’m among hundreds of writers who have documented our own government’s disclosure of propaganda programs to support their wars. I suspect my articles are under such propagandistic attack from comments that use typical rhetorical fallacies to distract readers from the facts. I invite readers to sharpen their ability to discern such propaganda. They are characterized by a combination of: never addressing the facts, diverting attention through unsubstantiated belief in an alleged expert, irrelevant data, straw-man attack that distorts the facts, ad hominem attack of insults to the messenger, vile comments to repulse readers, and lies of omission and commission.

I will use such comments to point-out the propaganda or delete them at my discretion. Again, all relevant and polite questions, and factually accurate comments are welcome. As a professional educator I’m in agreement with my experience and research: we learn best from multiple perspectives in mutual commitment to understand the facts, see those facts from diverse points-of-view, and consider various policy proposals of what we should do.

For those involved in support of US government-sponsored disinformation, I invite you to consider the quality of human relationships you wish to work toward. National security and a brighter future is not a function of fear, manipulation, and control. Our best security follows cooperation, justice under the law, dignity, and freedom. Working for your best imagined self-expression of virtue may include a unique contribution from the inside of your agency. Public attraction to the stories of Star Wars and the Harry Potter books/movies recognize that our society’s jump to civilized relations for all of us might require support from people within the “dark side” acting as covert agents for building a brighter future. Another option is becoming a whistle-blower; Project Camelot is a popular venue for people in sensitive positions. Ultimately, I recommend a Truth and Reconciliation process to exchange full truth for no prosecution, explained in detail at the link. Please consider the wisdom of your own “Scrooge conversion” to act for the benefit of all humanity rather than your self-proclaimed controlling, manipulating, and loveless “masters.”

“Scrooge was better than his word. He did it all, and infinitely more; and to Tiny Tim, who did not die, he was a second father. He became as good a friend, as good a master, and as good a man, as the good old city knew, or any other good old city, town, or borough, in the good old world. Some people laughed to see the alteration in him, but he let them laugh, and little heeded them; for he was wise enough to know that nothing ever happened on this globe, for good, at which some people did not have their fill of laughter in the outset; and knowing that such as these would be blind anyway, he thought it quite as well that they should wrinkle up their eyes in grins, as have the malady in less attractive forms. His own heart laughed: and that was quite enough for him.”

I subscribed to you last night. I am very glad I did, this is a great article.
I am running for United States Congress in Texas 32nd District on a very antiwar/anti corporate welfare stance.

While the basic facts presented in your article are accurate, you don't look at any of the possible counter arguments from a technical standpoint.
    1. The large nuclear reactor Iran has proposed has absolutely no place for medicinal isotope production and cannot be modified to do so without fundamental and unreasonably expensive overhauls to the design.
    2. Iran has no need of nuclear power based upon economic realities - even less for enrichment. You need to have economies of scale for building these extremely expensive facilities, and they are simply FAR more expensive then available alternatives - I wish you took your credentials as an economics teacher to probe that. (I have looked into them: accessible resources for enrichment and probable yield offers very limited return for billions in investment).
    3. The real threat to Israel posed by allies of Iran: historically Hezbollah, but now including Syria and Hamas (more proof in the weapons seized by Israel just recently).

    Continued from previous post.
While Iran's nuclear development can be counted as overtly peaceful, they can easily have learned plenty of tricks from previous governments gaining nuclear weapons that were "peaceful nuclear energy:" India, Pakistan, Israel, South Africa.
And finally as a government and economics professor, what makes the most sense? Take incentives or face penalties? There were offers to buy Uranium at high prices, give medical supplies, remove old sanctions; instead Iran delves further into nuclear processes. And to turn the argument on its head: Iran would rather have nuclear enrichment then save the lives of 1 million of its citizens?

You seem to argue that this is a country as enlightened or more so then ours (hence the peaceful/legal?) but you don't ever examine their view of the world and what they might value more then us. Since my school taught us history before taking government, maybe you should go back and see what Iran used child soldiers for in the 1

    J:
    1. You lying sack of spin! The IAEA has found zero evidence of any plant in design or use for non-legal and peaceful use.

    2. You lying sack of spin! France powers almost their entire country with nuclear energy and who do you think you are to tell Iran how to legally create electricity?!

    3. Then maybe Israel shouldn’t manage the world’s largest concentration camp in Gaza to reduce their being a target of anger. Read the Goldstone Report, but I’ll delete comments distracting from the easy solution to the issue of Iran’s legal use of nuclear fuel.

    4. The US could solve this problem today by an Obama speech saying, yes, we can sell this to Iran and end the problem here and now. He doesn’t. You don’t. Go fear-monger, lie, and obfuscate to allow mass–murder elsewhere.
