Brittany Murphy, whose life came to a tragically short end on December 20th, was the featured singer on the dance hit "Faster Kill Pussycat", which appeared on Paul Oakenfold's album A Lively Mind. The album was originally released on June 5, 2006, and the track is 3:13 in duration.
Oakenfold's myspage page, which describes him as "the world's biggest DJ", notes in his bio that
"Paul Oakenfold has been touted as one of the world's leading DJ/remixers by various outlets including CNN, Rolling Stone, BPM, Remix and more." Several condolance messages for Brittany Murphy are posted by friends on his page.
In an undated David Letterman interview believed to be from June 2006, Letterman introduces Murphy as "a talented actress and singer". Murphy walked onto the stage in a black dress as Paul Shaffer's band played their version of the song, and they proceeded to discuss the song as an amusedly ignored Letterman deadppans the camera . Below is a partial transcript.
Letterman: "That was the song right there that Paul was playing!"
Shaffer: "Did we get close to it?"
Murphy: "Yes, you did you were right on the money!"
Shaffer: "Huge dance club hit"
Murphy: "Can you believe that?"
Shaffer: "And you were singing lead on it"
Murphy: "It is, isnt that just a riot?"
Shaffer: "Congratulations!"
Murphy: "Thank you very much, I'm real happy about it."
At the end of the Letterman interview, he asks her again about the song,
Letterman: "Now this, tell me how did this come about here, what are we doin here?"
Murphy: "This is.. you know for years, I've sung my whole entire life. This is Paul Oakenfold, he is an incredible DJ,Uber DJ.. and a friend of mine, and he asked me to sing on a track. It was twenty minutes behind the booth, in a recording studio and ya know this December he said ya know 'would you put your name on it Britanny' and I said give me a week. And I called him back and proudly I did!"
Oakenfold is scheduled to perform New Year's Eve at the Palms Las Vegas, and currently performs at the Rain Nightclub in Las Vegas. The club's website recently announced Paul Oakenfold Extends Residency at Rain Nightclub Through 2010:
“With record attendance and increasing demand from our guests, N9NE Group and the Palms Casino Resort are very pleased to extend Paul’s residency and Perfecto Las Vegas through 2010,” said Vice President of N9NE Group, Michael Fuller."
- "Las Vegas – July 9, 2009 – Rain Nightclub inside Palms Casino Resort continues to host one of Las Vegas’ most highly-attended industry nights, Paul Oakenfold Presents: Perfecto Las Vegas as the world’s leading DJ and remixer, Paul Oakenfold, extends his residency through 2010.

A review of Oakenfold's album by Dan Raper opined:
-
"A Lively Mind, Oakenfold’s follow-up to Bunnka, finds him in a little—only a little—more of a club mood. Tracks, though on the whole fairly concise, revolve more around the club’s rhythmic pull than radio’s addiction to melody, to choruses you can sing. The trouble is, on his new disc the veteran of populist trance shows himself unable to come up with anything remotely innovative or engaging, even for the dance floor.

"Oakenfold’s idea of writing a song goes like this: build up a riff (quality: optional); throw in a pre-set house percussion loop; and to top it off, a flourish in the last bar of the 8-bar phrase, a vocal shout or melody. For his vocalists, Oakenfold ascribes to the Famous Name theory of songwriting: the greater the name recognition of the guest vocalist (however mangled or miniscule their actual contribution), the greater the selling power. This results in nine of the 12 tracks on the CD having that “(feat. X)” postscript. So on first track and lead-off single, “Faster Kill Pussycat”, it’s surprise vocalist Brittany Murphy—yeah, the actress from cinema classics Just Married and Little Black Book. Here she reprises her persona from 8 Mile, this sexy vixen-voice that’s impressive in a one-dimensional way; but she can’t save the song itself from its “Flashdance”-imitating mediocrity."
