White Sox top prospect Dayan Viciedo, promoted to the big league club in June, has put up good numbers during his stint with the team. Through 20 games, Viciedo has hit .322 with two home runs and six RBIs while manning third base.
Viciedo's debut in a White Sox uniform has been anticipated since the 21-year-old Cuban defector signed a four-year, $10 million Major League contract in the winter of 2008. An injury to Mark Teahen, who had been Chicago's starting third baseman before fracturing his right middle finger in June, created an opening on the roster for Viciedo.
With the first place White Sox looking to bolster their 25-man roster heading into the final two months of the season, Viciedo's name has been mentioned in trade rumors. The talk surrounding him has suggested hee would be the linchpin in a deal for another team's star player, such as Milwaukee's Prince Fielder.
Viciedo was not the only top organizational prospect to see time with the Major League team; top pitching prospect Dan Hudson was 1-1 with a 6.32 ERA over 15.2 innings with the White Sox before being traded to the Diamondbacks yesterday.
With the Charlotte Knights, Viciedo was hitting .290 with 14 home runs and 34 RBIs. Shifting to the hot corner from first base was a relatively recent switch; though it had been talked about since Spring Training, Viciedo played 51 games at first for the Knights and 10 at third base.
