Whispers are starting to turn into hopeful chats that Ricky Rubio can still end up on the Sacramento Kings roster.
As first reported by DraftExpress.com, Ricky Rubio's agent is trying to position his client to end up in either Los Angeles or Sacramento.
A source speaking on anonymity had this to say to DraftExpress.com, “Rubio doesn’t want to go to Memphis, and he especially does not want to pay money out of his own pocket with that huge buyout for the honor of doing so. Fegan wants him in L.A., and if he can’t have him there, he wants him in Sacramento. Definitely not Oklahoma City. He’ll pull out if he doesn’t like what he’s hearing, Or he can stay in and force the Grizzlies to call his bluff—would they really take him knowing that he may never come over? That’s one way to get him to fall to three.”
Now if that wasn't good enough news for Kings fans, another rumor is flying around that Memphis wants to trade down. According to HoopsWorld.com, Memphis is looking to trade down in the draft in the hopes of saving money.
So if Rubio doesn't want to play for Memphis or Oklahoma City, and the Clippers are taking Blake Griffin, then it's not a far stretch to think that Rubio could end up on the Sacramento Kings, whom have plenty of experience bringing over European stars like Peja Stojakovic and Hedo Turkoglu.
But there are still financial complications that can become a big challenge for the Kings or any NBA team. Rubio has to pay a reported 7-10 million dollars to DKV Joventut just to be able to enter the NBA.
Even with unconfirmed rumors, financial hurdles, and the 4th pick in the NBA draft just the thought of Rubio ending up a King has fans cautiously optimistic again.
