More than the eye can see: Tiger Woods accident, Louisville's Kragthorpe out as head coach

As the Cats look to take on their hated rivals from Tennessee, there is some interesting news going around the sports world today that isn't necessarily related to Kentucky, but still must be looked. Let’s take a look at some of the highlights:

-Completely unrelated to Kentucky sports, but relevant to the entire sporting world, Tiger Woods was involved in a car accident just the other night that had him hit his neighbor’s tree and a fire hydrant. Alcohol is said to not be involved in the incident and investigations are still on going. But let’s look at it this way. Even if alcohol wasn’t involved, where is Woods going at 2:25 a.m. the morning after Thanksgiving. Well TMZ.com take a varied look at the incident and reveals that there may be more to the story than the almighty ESPN would like to unveil. Keep your eyes peeled on this one. The world should know a bit more come Sunday when the police are to release the 911 recordings from the call made that morning. Should be interesting to see if anything is revealed in those recordings.

-Poor, poor Louisville. Wasn’t it just a couple of years ago that the Cardinals were 12-1 and winning BCS Bowl games? Yeah, well things have changed and now head coach Steve Kragthorpe has been thrown to the curb with Louisville once again looking for another coach after former coach Bobby Petrino decided to bolt for the NFL. Kragthorpe was a joke of a coach for Louisville and really had zero business being there head coach. If you’re a Louisville fan I’d be questioning your athletic director’s decision to hire Kragthorpe in the first place, rather than being upset at Kragthorpes inabilities as a coach. He clearly wasn’t the man for the job in the first place but was hired anyways. There are apparently some bigger names on the scene this time, with former Tennessee head coach Phil Fulmer reported as being interested in the position. If Fulmer couldn’t get it done at the end of his career at Tennessee, what makes people think he’ll turn around a floundering Louisville program? That’s what I thought.

-Reports from a couple of months ago had UK head coach John Calipari and his new look Cats taking their game to Louisville for an open practice. Per NCAA rules, the Cats weren’t allowed to make that trip for Kentucky fans in Louisville to see, but fear not Cats fans. Calipari and the Cats will indeed be headed to Freedom Hall on Sunday afternoon to hold an open practice for the public’s viewing pleasure, getting them ready for Monday’s game against UNC-Asheville. A huge stink was made about the previous attempt because it was the “Cats coming into the Cards gym” like they owned the place. Obviously, it’s great to ruffle the feathers of any Cards fan, player, or coach. It worked and they had their way that time, but not this one. Kentucky is playing there on Monday, Calipari wants more practice time, and Freedom Hall is where that will take place. Get over it Cards fans, its happening.

-Hated SEC rival Florida is rolling at the beginning of the early college basketball with their victory over #2 Michigan State last night. Many thought the Gators would struggle to contend in the SEC East, yet alone the SEC. Well, that doesn’t look to be the case as Billy Donovan has his squad undefeated thus far. With that said, how will the Gators test the Wildcats this year, who are favorites to win the SEC East? CBSSportsline Gary Parrish takes a look at it and believes it won’t be long until the Gators make their way into the Top-25 polls because of their early season tournament success. The Gators tend to start out strong, but fade later in the year. A similar situation could happen this year, unless of course, Donovan can have his team believing they are truly one of the top teams in the nation throughout the entire year.
