As the SEC East race heats up, it looks like three teams are in the thick of things coming down the stretch.
#12 Tennessee takes on #24 Vanderbilt Tuesday night with implications on the second spot in the division and quite possibly the first.
If Kentucky were to lose to Alabama tonight, that would put them at 7-2 and in a tie with the winner of the Vols/Commodores game. The Wildcats play Tennessee this Saturday and have already beaten Vandy.
Kentucky’s game against Alabama should be much like the rest of the games this season. Other than a dismal performance by the LSU Tigers, the Cats should get another good test from a team with solid athletes and talent. New head coach Anthony Grant will have his team rearing and ready to go.
The Crimson Tide are currently on a three game losing streak, unable to put things together this season despite having a solid duo in Mikhail Torrance and JaMychal Green. The inside-outside combo leads the team in scoring combining for 30 points a game while grabbing 10.6 rebounds and dishing out 6.9 assists.
The Wildcats counter with—most notably—their own inside-outside duo, among the best in the nation.
All eyes were on freshman John Wall early in the season, but the attention has switched to another talent freshman and fellow teammate. Center DeMarcus Cousins will come into the matchup looking to rack up his seventh straight double-double. In Saturday’s game against LSU he tallied 19 points and 13 rebounds for his sixth straight, further pushing his name into POY discussions.
Wall didn’t have quite the game Cousins had, but he is a different beast while playing at home. Wall only had two turnovers on Saturday a good sign that he is keeping his game ‘under control.’
Kentucky looks to make it four straight victories over SEC opponents to go (8-1) in conference and 23-1 on the season.
A win over Alabama would be another stepping stone to a regular season SEC Championship.
