(Part Two:) Karaoke: "Sing With Nick", the New york impersonator!

"September Morn", this Neil Diamond excursion is really very nice. It’s all by accident. Nick’s webcam doesn’t work, for this home studio recording, so he mounts it on a bicycle, for a trip through Onondaga Lake Park. It finally starts working, all of a sudden. We benefit!

You get a panoramic view of trees, houses, roller skaters, a “speed walker”. It’s a perfect “Nick/Neil” song to accompany this one and only outdoors video; wonderfully casual. A chunk of nostalgia waiting for the aging process.

In Garth Brooks’s song., “Friends In Low Places”, Nick is performing and often moving thru the assemblage with his black hat and country outfit: baloons are near, waitresses are walking about. We have the novelty of some individual audience participation in this one. A very fine Garth impersonation.

Nick, too, has always been fascinated by horror stories and haunted houses. He ran his own for about 10 years. That leads to another current venture:  www.handiboy.com

Nick creates and sells latex hands and personalized masks. These can be used for action figures, mannequins, or any number of things. One of his personal favorites is the mask of Michael Myers, who was famous in the movie “Halloween”.

He also sells videos on mask making. His masks certainly appear to be detailed, with a strong likeness. (Dr. Smith from "Lost in Space")

In ”"Crying", Nick is singing alongside a big picture of Roy Orbison. He hit’s the high notes beautifully. It shows quite a range, in comparison to his deep singing of  Elvis.             http://www.singsnap.com/snap/watchAndListen/play/ab98d6ba

He makes the difficult song look easier than it really is.

For Nick, Willie Nelson is a “wild card” that really works! It's such a unique voice, with that nasal quality.  A real departure from Diamond, Sinatra, Elvis or Dean Martin.

True story. Nick Mulpagano was driving in his town, with the radio on. He suddenly heard a Willie Nelson song, “You Were Always On My Mind”. Willie, of course, is one of the singers that Nick mimes.

He took note of the areas in Willie’s song that he needs to improve on, and this was disconcerting to Nick, kind of a downer.

At the end of the song, played here in this New York area, the radio jockey said: “You’ve
just heard “You Were On My Mind’ by Nick Mulpagano. Nick had been listening to himself!!

Indeed, it is a virtuoso performance!

Nick is in full stride while doing Elvis Presley. It’s true that casts of thousands are also impersonating Elvis, but that doesn’t deny how very good Nick is with this. He has spent significant time in perfecting Elvis songs.

The sad tale of of "Old Shep" is marvelously done. "A Little Less Conversation", has some folks thinking that nick is lip synching Elvis. He’s not. It’s an amazing duplication.

"Bridge Over Troubled Water", has Nick in large glasses and bushy dark hair. It’s just superlative; and big time reminiscent of Elvis.

May 2009, Nick starred in a musical and was reviewed by P.H.D. Neil Novelli, of the Post standard, (who has some Shakespeare in his background) who said, among other things:

“If you want a sense of how powerful and enjoyable a musical experience can be, you might want to check out "Cruizin With Nick & Friends", the bright, skilled 1950’s and ‘60’s revue that opened Friday”.

“…The opening night audience clearly enjoyed the show from start to finish.” “….Mulpangano doesn’t do just snippets of songs, and he doesn’t lip synch. Like any good impersonator, he can convey body mannerisms and vocal timbres.” Amen.

There is also an exercise website, www.fitwithnick. You can purchase videos at www.singwithnick.com

End.

He is awesome! I've seen close to 200 of his shows and, I believe, I became his first "groupie." Now when I go to a show I love watching the faces of people seeing him for the first time.
