KU basketball continues to see improvements made to the already stellar program, with the opening of its new basketball practice facility.
For those who don't know, the building is connected to the west side of Allen Fieldhouse and seems to have many perks. KU mens basketball coach Bill Self told KUsports.com the design was great because it allowed enough space for both the mens and womens teams to practice. He also noted how the new facility is air conditioned and much cooler than Allen Fieldhouse. Self said based on how impressed the currents mens roster was with the facility, he thought new recruits would have the same feeling and be more likely to choose Kansas when it comes to making a choice between KU and another school.
I have to say I am a little shocked KU did not have a facility like this for basketball before, spending years working on the football facility. But I am glad to see basketball make some upgrades. Self definitely deserves it after winning an NCAA title and bringing in a lot of talented recruits.
In some sour news, Self is worried about his players catching the swine flu. The University Daily Kansan, the KU student newspaper, reports almost 50 cases of students at KU with the deadly virus. However, Self said steps have been taken to educate the players and student body about what can be done to try and prevent the virus.
