So it took a couple days to heal, recover, and eat again after Saturday's gut wrenching loss. Any time you give up the game winner in stoppage time, its going to take some time to let go. Two and half days to be exact, four pizza pies, and a friend's warm embrace.
And during that time, I was able to not only go over the game in my head several times, but also re-watch it on DVR. So without further delay, I proudly present to you this week's heroes and zeros.
To begin with, the heroes...
1) Kevin Hartman - Hartman was sharp from the opening whistle because he had to be. Sloppy defense kept him on his toes all night, and for the most part he was up to the task. He also became the first goalkeeper in MLS history to reach 1200 saves.
2) Jack Jewsbury - Jewsbury was active all night on both sides of the field and it almost paid off. He had a near goal right before half and stayed busy the rest of the game.
3) Josh Wolff - Overall Wolff played up-tempo, kept the pressure on in the offensive end, and helped set up others. Four shots and four offsides isn't a great line, but at least he showed some life, which is better than what this offense has been doing lately.
And to finish, the zeros...
1) Rauwshan McKenzie - It started out bad from the get go and went down hill from there. He seemed slow, out of his element, and lacked intelligence throughout the night, especially the header back to the goalie that almost cost the Wizards an early goal.
2) Jimmy Conrad - He didn't play particularly bad, but his back line sure did and when you are the leader, you get the blame. The defense must have forgot what time zone they were in for the first ten minutes because Hartman was standing on top of his head to keep ball out of the net.
3) Claudio Lopez - Lopez played well actually, and he was going to be the third star. But after watching that opening break away in the first five minutes, I had to put him here. All the Wizards need iss a goal, a lead, something positive, and Lopez had the perfect chance. He blew it.

Really enjoyed your style of analysis and breakdown. Keep up the good writing.
I'm wasn't a big Wizards fan u ntil they moved to Kansas. Since they're the state's only pro team, I gave them a chance and I'm a total convert. It's a awesome game and a fun FUN time, even if the team isn't firing on all cylindars right now. Thanks for the solid writing brent!
Wolff a hero? Wolff was utter crap on Saturday. Showed life? He's shown nothing since getting his red card, he needs to be on the bench right next to Lopez.
Heros you could have named instead, Gomez (he was our biggest threat going forward) or Watson (shut down Huckerby and Alvarez when either one was on his side).
Conrad did alright on the royals/wizards crossover on metro sports, but that's about it.
Another so so season from the sloppy Wiz.
Soccer makes me want to climb a tall tall ridge and jump from it to my death. Conrad makes me feel the same, with all his leadership ability he needs to step his game up. You know? bcause i dont..
