Kamloops is a pretty safe city. It doesn't have high crime rates and it has the "everyone knows everyone" feel of a small town.
I've lived in the same neighbourhood for the 1.5 years that I've lived in Kamloops and it's the same neighbourhood that I both learned to run in - and fell in love with running in. There's a 3-mile, hilly loop around my house that I've ran so many times I could do it backwards with my eyes closed.
I headed out for a brief run yesterday afternoon, just me and my iPod, when I couldn't help but think about a few articles I'd read lately about the importance of safety.
I don't have road ID and I was heading out without my cell phone, just me, my iPod and my shoes.
Something, maybe it was the articles I'd read recently, made me think twice. Before heading out I quickly scribbled some crucial information on a post-it and stuck it in my iPod case; my name, age, my mom's telephone number and the fact that I had no allergies. It's not much, but it's better then nothing.
Before heading out for a run, please remember to be safe.
Better safe then sorry, after all.
