Crooked Houses on Jon and Kate Plus 8
While Crooked Houses probably weren't aware their product would be showcased side-by-side with the downer of the Jon and Kate divorce announcement, those were the cards they were dealt, and while cute whimsical playhouses and the dissolution of a family of 10 aren't simpatico, the company certainly gained a lot of eyeballs on their product.
So what are they?
It's actually a neat idea that takes a structurally sound playhouse and puts a facade on the outside that makes it look ramshackle and as if kids had built it themselves. I'm a big fan of whimsical stuff, and think this would make a great addition to my backyard.
At least, I thought it would, until I saw the price tag.
It seems you have to make Jon and Kate type money if you want a custom design such as the ones that appeared on the show -- a custom Crooked House runs about $5,000. So easy math there -- $5,000 x 4 houses = $20,000 worth of free stuff for the Gosselin kids.
If that's a bit out of your league you can pick up an original Crooked House for a "modest" $1,249. The one pictured which includes dormer and porch will set you back $2,549.

They only were given 4 houses.
Did you watch the show at all mate? The little girls share one house, the little boys share one house. Each twin girl gets one each. A calculator might help with your math and if you punched the figures you would find that it should read 4 houses x the given price. Not $40,000... sighs and rolls eyes...

Even if the (FOUR!) houses were given to them (where does that fact come from?) the publicity that company received was worth a lot more than their value!

The author did the math and she came up with only $20,000. I dunno, last I checked...when 5000 is multiplied 4 times, 20,000 it is. Learn to read mate, sheeesh!

In Don's defense I did mistakenly have 8 houses originally -- in the flurry of all the J&K posting last night and trying to get this post up quickly before bed I had a brain meltdown.

Please, please ( I am clicking my red rubby slippers here) ...make the Jon and Kate nightmare go away! How sad how J and K kept saying they bought the "new" big house with land "for the kids"! Everything is for the kids. Kids more than anything want to see their parents happy. To heck with a crooked house. Their own lives are crooked enough. I am appalled that the show "must go on!" That is a sad, sad thing.
Forget the houses, you couldn't miss Jon's bling-bling! I really think thats what set Kate over the edge!
the media in america are home reckers. because of them Jon and Kate are now getting a divorce. It is so hard to watch them go down. I wish they could surprise everyone and make up..
Their decision should have been to stop the insanity and quit the show. Did they really have to announce a divorce? We already figured that out. TLC is playing everybody for fools and should be ashamed of themselves for adding to this couples greed. The kids deserve better and I wish someone (grandparents, family?) would step in and say enough! J and K will never end the show on their own. TLC step up to the plate or you will see a huge backlash. I've had enough!!
Fed up...click away...while you're at it click for the moms that are dropping their kids off to stay ALL DAY LONG with strangers. I know there's reputable childcare out there but since you Kate haters want to rant about "the kids" welfare...GET REAL...look in your own backyard! All of you bitching comment mostly on Kate's appearance and last time I checked it's not against the law to look GREAT and be a mom. JEALOUS Jealous Jealous... 10 mouths to feed (Jon sure was'nt stepping up to the "plate")Good for her...she gets to make great $$$ to take care of the entire family and have them be with one or both parents at all times. Jon would have acted like a moron whether on tv or not...it would have only taken local "celebreality" to cause his eye to wander!

The kids seemed really happy with the houses - I see NOTHING wrong with that - Good work Crooked House!! Thanks for bringing a little joy back to J&K+8.
I imagine the houses were a donation ... free publicity for the Crooked House Company.
J&K have played their TV audiences for the fool. TLC has absolutely destroyed a family. I wonder if they feel any regrets. TLC should be sued for fraud. Very little about the Gosselin show is reality TV.
The "crooked houses" HAD to be free; otherwise, Jon and Kate would have referred to them as "play houses." Instead, the trademarked words "Crooked Houses" were mentioned dozens of times in the "divorce episode" by this very selfish couple. I hope that one day they will understand what the words "little blessings" really means and stop exploiting those eight children! Their own crooked house is in shambles because the priorities of the parents are so off plumb and out of square!
I agree with all of you on some part or the other. I don't like the fact that they put their kids on tv to let the whole world to see their every move practically, but however the guidence and things used could be good for someone with multiples(my sister). I do enjoy watching the show, but everytime I do I just think of how the show is having an effect on the children. I think the whole world would have know they were going to separate before the "announcement." Anyways even if the Crooked Houses were given to the children or not I think they were a great idea because it got the kids minds off of something other than their parents trouble(because you know they had to have heard somewhat of the arguements) for awhile. I mean did you see the 5th birthday party where let's see I can't recall which little girl it was, but anyways she went up to Jon and was talking to him. I know it broke my heart just to see that little girl going throught that. It really is heartbreaking for the kids
