(note: the price of these items has been reduced to $1995 and this has been reflected in this article as of July 7, 2010)
Would you like to own your personal piece of rock and roll history? Ringo Starr is offering a very limited edition series—just 144 pieces total--of personalized art pieces to raise money for his favorite charity, the Lotus Foundation.
We have just learned from Donn Bennett of Donn Bennett's Drum Studios in Bellevue, Washington, the following news from Ringo's camp:
"The Ringo Starr art collectible pieces are an original limited edition series, each signed and numbered. The pieces consist of 72 abalone and 72 Swarovski crystal."
They are priced at $1995 apiece. Ringo is shown here posing with both pieces. Enlarged photos of each can be seen at the links above.
"The primary purpose for creating and offering these collectible art pieces is to donate 100% of the proceeds to Ringo’s charity, The Lotus Foundation.
Each piece is 30”x 22” constructed using a museum quality frame, Acid-free Museum quality Matt boards, Acid-free Rag Back, and Museum quality Plexiglas.
Each piece consists of four rare elements:
1. A photo of Ringo playing his drums. These photos are only available through Rob Shanahan, Ringo’s photographer.
2. A reproduction of the hand-crafted, custom drum finish applied to Ringo’s drums, either the abalone finish drum kit played by Ringo on the 2006 Ringo Starr and his All Starr Band tour, or the Swarovski crystal finish drum kit played by Ringo on the 2008 Ringo Starr and his All Starr Band tour.
3. A pair of Ringo’s signature drum sticks that Ringo played during a live show.
4. Each piece is signed by Ringo Starr.
The pieces were designed by Jeff Chonis, Ringo Starr’s personal drum tech for the past 21 years. Jeff collected the drum sticks played by Ringo Starr from the live shows."
This is a very special offering from Ringo and due to the very limited edition, will be certain to be a valuable collectible for anyone interested in Beatles or music history.
