Having been on opposite ends of the job spectrum in my life, as a recruiter helping others locate a job and also having the need to find a job myself, I can attest to the laborious nature of the job search.
Recently I wrote an article about the various places to begin an online job search and purposely left out one very important location because I thought it deserved a bit more spotlight. That site is Indeed.com. The slogan for Indeed says it all, "one search. all jobs." Indeed provides job search assistance for people in 16 countries from Australia to the United States.
To get the information to you straight from the source, I spoke to a Marketing Associate at Indeed.
How could you best describe the service that Indeed.com provides?
Indeed.com is the most comprehensive search engine for jobs, giving job seekers the best job search experience. Since 2004, Indeed has given job seekers free access to millions of jobs from thousands of company websites and job boards. This collection of job search tips we provide will help job seekers search for jobs more effectively and increase their odds of getting hired.
Does your site offer a tutorial for those who are less computer savvy and perhaps starting their first online job search?
Yes. Job seekers can also view our Job Search tutorial series to learn how to do a basic job search, take advantage of our email job alerts and better organize their job search using a my.indeed account.
What other parts of your service do think they will find unique?
Indeed offers a variety of tools that will help all job seekers get ahead of the competition and stay informed. Our Job Trends tool shows how many job postings in our index contain certain words or phrases and our Salary Search tool provides salary estimates for job titles and keywords based on any location. If job seekers would like to discuss the job market, working experiences and advice with others, they can visit our Forums. We also recently released our Job Market Competition Index which compares the number of unemployed to the number of job postings for the 50 biggest cities in the United States. As we update it monthly, job seekers can track which parts of the country offer the best chances of finding a job.
As an employee of Indeed, what advice would you personally give for job hunting?
The best advice for job seekers is to keep their search focused to ensure they are applying only for jobs they're qualified for. This will help save time and energy. Job seekers should also do as much research about a potential employer as possible. Knowing more about a company will help a job seeker stand out from the crowd.
Founders, Paul Forster and Rony Kahan, who previously founded Jobsinthemoney, a Forbes award winning site for Best Finance Jobsite, aimed high with Indeed to radically improve online job searching. Quickly recognized as an industry leader, Indeed.com was selected by Time magazine as one of the "Top 10 Websites" for 2007.
