Mahmoud Abbas, the president of the Palestinian Authority has set preconditions on Israel in order to start talks on a comprehensive peace which everyone knows, least of all, Abbas that they will be non starters.
The Palestinians who are in no position to demand anything from anyone are still trying to force Israel into a weaker starting position.
Let’s see…what does he want this time. Now he wants Israel to agree to a third party controlling the border before peace talks can begin.
That’s right, force Israel to accept something that historically only made their job of protecting their citizens harder. Oh yea, they’ll agree to that again.
I got an idea for Abbas. How about you control your population and begin to erase the murderous philosophy that runs through your entire people from men to women to children to the elderly. Then nobody will have to guard the border.
He also wants a fair land swap. Does he expect the Israelis to propose boundary lines now, before they even talk about it? This is outrageous. The Israelis have shown in the past their willingness to trade land for land already inhabited by Jews on the West Bank.
He must be really scared of ending up with Jews in his new state. Does he hate Jews, or what?
Has anybody told Abbas that a negotiation is not something where you get everything you want.
Conflict resolution 101: Negotiation is something where you don’t get everything you want and the other side doesn't get everything it wants but you both a get a little and you agree to live with it.
Does he know that? Do those idiots he have advising him tell him this. I guess not, well, never mind then.
And, what else does he want,
Hmm, oh, let’s not forget the good old staple of excusing Palestinian terrorism against innocent Jews--a halt to all construction in the West Bank. Since Israel has already tried that with the Palestinians several times during the history of this poor excuse for a peace process we have endured since 1993, now he wants it again.
In fact we are in the middle of one of those freezes now, a ten month agreement which currently has not ended yet, and where are the Palestinians? You see the Palestinians? Show me the Palestinians.
This is the tactics of a man more interested in making his enemy pay for their perceived past crimes than trying to end the conflict.
What we have here is a people stalling for something that is unattainable, the complete destruction of the Jewish State. If Abbas was really interested in trying to make peace with Israel he would sit down and go for the best deal he could.
But, he isn’t interested in that.
He is emboldened by recent history of a weaker Netanyahu than in the past, and further encouraged by a Washington administration that finally sees Palestine as a friend and Israel as a liability that must be caged.
If that’s the case, what is to stop him from demanding more and more concessions before Israel will agree. Hell, he might as well demand that Israel begin its own self destruction, repatriate eight million Palestinians back into Israel, and hold special elections and then poof! No more Israel.
Now, that’s an Israel that Abbas can negotiate with!
