An explosion rocked Gaza the on August 1st, injuring 24 people. The Jerusalem Post reports that two have died but that information is unconfirmed at this time.
The blast was significant, completely destroying the home and several others around it.
The home was of Hamas field commander, Alaa al-Danaf who was a known bomb maker. Danaf was not injured in the blast.
Hamas officials blame an Israeli missile attack for the explosion. However, Israel denies any involvement saying it launched no missiles in that area.
In finding the reason for the blast if Israel didn’t do it the BBC said, “the cause of the explosion was not immediately clear, but militants have sometimes been killed unexpectedly while preparing bombs and not in direct conflict.”
Nora fein, who just returned from Israel said from her Los Angeles home that "everyday there are explosions in the Gaza Strip."
There were tv reports that several other explosions were recorded in Gaza over the past week. This has been attributed to the high temperatures and not storing explosives properly.
Israel did take the credit for killing another Hamas commander, Issa Batran, in retaliation for a rocket launched at Israel the day before.
Hamas has vowed revenge for that killing.
