This is the 37th Annual AMA awards show.  The coverage starts with Red Carpet images of several stars at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles. George Panachio announces the after party at the Congo Room in Hollywood.

The screen goes black, then the announcer says Ladies and gentlemen…JANET JACKSON!...Lights flash off and on. Janet is in the shadows as the music for “Control” starts to play. The dancers go into motion and Janet is in a brown and green outfit. She looks fierce and she starts singing. She glides across the stage like a super model on roller skates. Windmill type lights in the background and the dancers move about briskly to the beat of the music. Janet hip hops across the stage singing a medley of her hits. “What have you done for me Lately”, “Miss you Much”, Things I Do” and more dance tunes as the lights flash and more visuals in the background to the finale tune. Janet performs well and gets a standing ovation.

Next Paula Abdo walks on stage in an elegant black designer dress that reaches across the floor. Paula gave the first award of the evening to “Black Eye Peas” for “Favorite Pop/Rock Band or Duo”. This was their 6th AMA award. Then a commercial break.

After the break the next award went to Rascal Flatts for “Favorite Country Band/Duo Group. This was their 5th AMA award. Shakira performs. She looked and sounded great. Fantastic act. She had a troop of dancers on stage and dancing in the aisle while Shakira sang and moved with the dancers. The crowd cheered. Commercial break.

The next talent is Keith Urban performing “I wanna Kiss A Girl”. He rocked! Then Reba McIntyre 15 time AMA award winner introduced Kelly Clarkston who performed her new hit song wowing the crowd with her songbird vocals. The crowd cheered! Commercial.

A-Rod was the next presenter and he introduced Jay Z and Alicia Keyes to perform their new song together. With full orchestra and Alicia on piano Jay Z was masterful with his Rap and Alicia vocalizing and celebrating New York in song. The crowd cheered! Christian Slater of “The Forgotten” TV Show was the next presenter and introduced “Green Day” to perform and win “Favorite Alternative Rock Artist”. This was their 3rd AMA award. They seemed to be a crowd favorite. Commercial break. The Jackson’s –“A Family Dynasty”.

Kate Hudson and Nicole Kidman were the next presenters and gave “Black Eye-Peas” Most Popular Hip Hop Band award. Fergie looked and sang sexy, gorgeous look with her black hair. She wails her vocals as “Will I Am” did his thing. The group was fantastic. Next up Michael Jackson won Favorite Soul R&B Artist. Jermaine Jackson accepted for Michael. This was Michaels 22nd AMA award. The crowd cheered!  Commercial.
Next the Country & Western Male Artist is awarded to Keith Urban his first AMA award. Beyonce won “Favorite Soul R&B Artist. Neo was the next presenter and introduced Rhianna. She did a high tech eclectic performance. The crowd applauded. Commercial break.

Rascal Flatts introduced Carrie Underwood to perform. She was fantastic. The crowd cheered. Lady Gaga, preformed and boy did she perform. She broke glass on the piano, the top part of the piano was on fire. Her vocals were great! She had great background visuals going on as she weaved her magic in the song. What a talent! The crowd roared! Commercial break. Bud Light, Find My Family, The Morgan’s trailer and MasterCard.

Three performers introduced Mary J. Blige who performed very well and look good too. The crowd cheered big. Then “The Breakthru Artist award was given to Glorianna. It was their 1st AMA award. Jennifer Lopez was the next performer. She came into the theater dressed like a prize fighter. Jay Lo dances with such attitude and a good vocal performance that wowed the crowd. The finale Jay Lo and her dancers walk off stage out into the aisle then disappears in a cloud of smoke. Great show. Great performance. Thumbs up she scored a knockout. Commercial.

Samuel L. Jackson, was the next presenter and gave Whitney Houston the ”International Artist of the Year Award”. Whitney performed. She looked elegant and healthy with a full orchestra and choir behind her. Whitney sang well but expect better from her in the near future. Because she is Whitney Houston who has wowed us for decades. The crowd gave her a thunderous applause. Commercial.

Taylor won the next award for “Favorite Country Female”. Michael Jackson won “Favorite Pop/Rock Artist Male”. This was Michael’s record setting 23rd AMA award. Jermaine Jackson accepted this award also. Alicia Keyes performed next, she had good vocals with dancers hip-hopping and gyrating around her. She sits at the piano for the finale as the piano is revolving round and round. Commercial. Products and ABC promos.

Eminen and 50 Cent perform next. Eminen weaves his mastery of rap to the funky beats and 50 Cent comes in with his prolific lyrics. There were great visual backgrounds and Eminen finishes strong. Timberland performed next and did dark rhymic verses with two female artists (Nelly Furtado and Sunshine)with smoke and interesting visuals in the background. The dancers had the “Thriller” look and dance steps as Timberland moved his large body across the stage. The crowd cheered. Commercial.

After the break “Green Day” performed great visuals and got a rousing applause. Jay Z got his 2nd AMA award. Then Taylor Swift got “Artist of the Year” award. Finally Adam Lambert’s debut performance. He is the ultimate performer. He sings great! He moves right. Great outfit, gritty, soulful, polished vocal performance. Ryan Seacrest was the closing host. He thanked everybody and bid goodnight.

    If this is an article I don't know what is. This is clearly written as a BLOG (hence this misspellings, no overall assessment of the AMA's, and no quotes from celebrities...and there are at least a dozen misspelled words too).

    Wow!!! Took the words right out of my mouth!!! Al Slater is the one of the best writers I know. This is a hit write up! As I was reading it I envisioned the show all over again! I must say this is a strong and very well written article!!!! Thumbs Up!!!!!!
