Well folks are you getting ready for “Thanksgiving”? The warm spirit of our humanity is in the air and the anticipation of the day is growing near. What is your special dish you love to eat or cook? My favorite food to eat is dressing or stuffing which ever you decide to call it. My favorite contribution to the “Thanksgiving” feast is Ambrosia. In case you are not familiar with Ambrosia it is a fruit salad type dish in our family household. I want to share the recipe with all of you. First we start with our favorite fruits we like to eat. And they are:
1. pineapple chunks
2. fresh raw skin peeled peach slices (medium texture) if in season.
3. banana slices
4. small mandarin oranges
5. red maraschino cherries
6. green maraschino cherries
7. a desired amount of raisins
8. a desired amount of coconut flakes (sweetened or unsweetened)
9. a desired amount of shelled walnuts
10. a sprinkle of cinnamon
11. a dash of ginger
12. a desired amount of sour cream (1 or 2 tablespoons) recommended
13. a container of whipped cream (or desired amount for consistency)
14. a desired pack of small marshmallows (colored) or white (small or big)
15. a desired amount of kiwi (optional)
16. a desired amount of grapes (red or green optional)
17. a desired amount of mango slices (optional)
Disclaimer: This is how I make it. You can make it to your own taste or preference.
Mix and stir together until it looks good to the eyes. Go ahead taste it a little bit before you let it chill in the refrigerator for an hour or two then serve. This dish should be eaten in two days tops to preserve the perky freshness and nutrients.
This can be served as a dessert or just something refreshing to eat. The continued good cheer, good will, will always be a part of our taste bud experience. Now the pumpkin pies, the cakes and any other dessert will always be a mainstay in our army of desserts of this festive celebratory day. Here is our army of desserts: Pecan pie, Potatoe pie, Blueberry pie, Lemon Meringue pie, German chocolate cake, Blue ribbon cake, Custard Pudding, Brownies, and the stable Pound cake).
The learning curve is to give “Thanks for Thanksgiving” everyday and not just on “Thanksgiving”. Let us talk about this? Are you thankful for your family? Are you thankful for the love in your life? Are you thankful for your job or business? Are you thankful for friends? Are you thankful for health? Are you thankful for when and where you were born (maybe or maybe not anyway)? Are you thankful for time even though it never seems to be enough time to do what you want to do sometimes? Are you thankful for the city, state and country you live in (sometimes challenging)? Are you thankful for great recipes and great cooks who prepared your food? Speaking of recipes my favorite one that I really enjoy is to eat, eat, and eat the good food prepared for me…Hmmm….mm good.
Well after all that eating I guess a little walk around the block can not hurt to help burn off some of the calories I just put into my body. Health is important and exercise is good. You know “Thanks for Thanksgiving” is not just one day but everyday of our lives. It is not just about eating food though most of us enjoy it, however giving thanks to God first and pray over your food is essential before you eat it. Well, until we meet again…God Bless everyone. Many blessings and “Happy Holidays”!
