It's not quite what Elton John had in mind (jazz vs fighting, that is), but, this Saturday is shaping up as a great night for local jazz enthusiasts. In addition to the previously mentioned Bakersfield College Jazz Ensemble jazz concert at the BC Indoor Theater (story here: BC Jazz ), there are a couple of other jazz events of interest Saturday evening:
Imbibe, a local wine enthusiast's mecca, will be featuring Jazz Connection, the latest project from local trumpeter and CEO of the Bakersfield Jazz Workshop, Steve Eisen, from 6 - 8 PM. There is no cover charge. Imbibe is located at 4140 Truxtun Avenue Extension, next to AT&T. For more information, call 661.444.0853, or check out www.imbibewine.com .
Finally, the CSUB Jazz Ensemble will be putting on a show at CSUB's Dore Theater at 8 PM featuring the music of Gordon Goodwin, Sammy Nestico, Joey Calderazzo, Clifford Brown, and Alan Baylock. Many of the performers are frequent participants at the Bakersfield Jazz Workshop, including saxophonists David Baron Stevens and Chris Nguyen, and trumpeter Mark Manda. Also appearing will be Daniel Saldana (guitar), Jeff Slaughter (trombone), and Schulyer Johnson (piano). Tickets are $10; $6, students / seniors. More info can be found here: CSUB Jazz or by calling 661.654.2293.
