Bakersfield College will be holding a free jazz workshop on Tuesday, May 4th, beginning at 1 PM. The visiting artist will be guitarist G.E. Stinson, known to many as one of the co-founders of Grammy Award winning Shadowfax, a new age / electronic / jazz fusion group who soared to popularity in the mid-eighties and nineties before disbanding following the untimely death of Chuck Greenberg.
Following his appearance at BC, he will be appearing later that evening at Dagny's Coffee Co. with BC Jazz Director and trumpeter, Kris Tiner.
Both appearances are free and open to the public.
In 1988 Shadowfax won the Grammy for Best New Age Performance for "Folksongs for a Nuclear Village." Stinson left Shadowfax after recording "The Odd Get Even" (1989) and went "underground" in Los Angeles to work on his "extended technique" and "frequency manipulation." Since then he has worked with a number of musicians on various projects, including duets with Nels Cline, Miya Masaoka, Napalm Quartet, Splinter Group, L. Stinkbug, and others.
