Jason Mraz turns over a new leaf on American Idol performance

Jason Mraz performed his hit song "I'm Yours" on last week's American Idol finale. He was one of the many celebrities that made an appearance on the two-hour show where Kris Allen, often compared to Jason Mraz, was named Season 8's American Idol.

When asked by reporters what advice he would give the new American Idol, Jason Mraz said "Remember, it's your responsibiity to be inspiring to people," which is what Mraz trys to do through his upbeat melodies and positive lyrics.

No one would expect this cool and calm guy to be worrying about anything that night, although he did express slight anxiety to one reporter on the red carpet saying that he was nervous about "singing and walking down the stairs at the same time."

However, just hours before the live broadcast while waiting in the green room, Jason Mraz wrote an entry in his online journal, Freshness Factor Five Thousand, expressing his hesitation about success and failure in his career: "I am afraid of success just as much as I am afraid of failing. I have fears about how I’ll look in the eyes of my peers, my family, or my fans. And up until now I’ve had fears about sharing this information."

Perhaps plagued by the question of whether American Idol is taken seriously by established musicians and songwriters, Mraz answered all his silent critics with a new statement of pride: "Tonight, I’m appearing on American Idol, singing I’m Yours with a handful of contestants from this past season and for the first time I’m actually celebrating my own success. Even though I dreamed of having this life, I’ve been too afraid that people will find me egotistic if I actually show how much fun I have doing it."

And as a result, Jason Mraz looked extremely happy and proud during the performance. Singing the song without playing his guitar gave Mraz the freedom to command the stage like any talented vocalist who takes pride in doing something he loves.

Jason is about as real as they come. He's so true to himself, how could you not love a guy like that?! Plus, his voice is AMAZING! He's a truly nice guy, I don't think he'll ever become one of those too good for everyone type of person.
I recommend him to everyone I know! He's hilarious and very insightful!!
