Tonight, the San Diego chapter of the Surfrider Foundation will honor Jason Mraz with the organization's prestigious Clean Water Award. The award, which will also be presented to local business Cali Bamboo and Encinitas Deputy Mayor Maggie Houlihan, is presented once a year to local environmental heroes who have helped the Surfrider Foundation in its mission to protect and preserve our world’s oceans, waves and beaches.
An avid surfer, Jason Mraz has been a longtime supporter of the Surfrider Foundation. In September 2009, he participated in the Celebrity Surfing Session in Malibu to raise funds for the organization. Then in October 2009, part of the funds raised at Mraz's San Diego concert were donated to the Surfrider Organization.
“Over the years, Jason, Cali Bamboo and Deputy Mayor Houlihan have continued to help the Surfrider Foundation advance its mission and raise coastal awareness amongst friends, family and the public, and for that we extremely grateful,” said Manase Mansur, Surfrider Foundation San Diego Chapter Chair in a press release.
The Clean Water Awards will be presented at the organization’s 10th Annual Art Gala silent auction fundraiser tonight in Del Mar. For more information, visit http://www.surfridersd.org/artgala_2010.php.
