Jason Mraz is one of the artists scheduled to perform at the "Gershwin Across America with Special Guests" concert on August 25. Tickets to the Gershwin Across America concert at the Hollywood Bowl went on sale on Sunday.
According to the LA Times, Mraz will join Monica Mancini, Bebe Winans, Nancy Wilson and St. Vincent in this special tribute to the music of George and Ira Gershwin. The two brothers formed one of the most successful songwriting teams of the 20th century with their music appearing in more than 12 Broadway shows and four Hollywood movies. Some of their most famous songs include "Someone to Watch Over Me", "I Got Rhythm", "Summertime", and "They Can't Take That Away from Me".
A Gershwin Across America CD is also in the works being produced by Phil Ramone. The album features Jason Mraz, Jewel, Darius Rucker, Paul Simon and many others.
Jason Mraz's strong tenor voice is well-suited for Broadway-style songs. Mraz originally pursued musical theater when he briefly attended the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York City back in the mid-1990s where he met his best friend, Bushwalla.
Watch Jason pay homage to Broadway in this 2004 performance at New York's Beacon Theater.
