Jason Mraz 2011 tour includes free show in Canada and shows in Europe

[Note: Article has been updated with a correction]

Beginning in September, Jason Mraz is traveling overseas on a mini-global concert tour taking him to 5 out of the 7 continents. But before that, it was just announced on Friday that he is playing a free concert in Whistler, British Columbia on August 5. The municipality of Whistler, BC, Canada is sponsoring a free outdoor concert series at Whistler Olympic Plaza and Jason Mraz is one of the musical acts scheduled to perform.

Meanwhile, along with scheduled dates at concert venues in cities like Sydney, Berlin, Prague and New York, Jason Mraz's management hinted that Mraz, along with his longtime percussionist, Toca Rivera, will be playing unannounced surprise acoustic shows beginning in Morocco and continuing throughout Europe. Combining business with pleasure, Mraz and Rivera will "immerse themselves in local culture, seeking unique performance spaces and treasured surf spots." [Update July 25, 2011: Jason Mraz's management says he will not be playing any surprise shows in Europe]

On the tour, Mraz will be performing in legendary music halls including Carnegie Hall in New York and the Sydney Opera House. While in Australia, more impromptu shows may pop up, as Mraz and Rivera plan to visit places "they have never experienced, including Uluru (also known as Ayers Rock)."

Mraz's concert tour is seen as an opportunity to use music "to inspire change and help others through global citizenship." Having recently formed The Jason Mraz Foundation, Mraz supports a variety of charities around the world including Free the Slaves, the Surfrider Foundation, the True Colors Fund and Life Rolls On.
