Janet Jackson made a surprise appearance via her brother Jermaine's cell phone on last night's episode of 'The Jacksons: A Family Dynasty.'
Janet Jackson's brothers have hit the airwaves for a second week in a row with their own new reality show airing on A&E. The show follows the Jackson brothers attempting to recapture their Jackson 5 glory days as they collaborate to make a 40th anniversary album to celebrate the formation of the Jackson 5.
Before laying down tracks in their first recording session for their new album, Jermaine Jackson stops to call Janet and wish her a happy birthday. You hear a very soft-spoken Janet whisper through the phone about the new English bulldog she just received for her birthday, before she ends the brief conversation to go to the movies.
The show no-doubt attempts to display the Jackson family in a normal light. Not only do we see them collaborating, but we see them squabbling as well. The Jackson brothers' are surprisingly candid about a sibling rivalry between eldest brother Jackie and the former heartthrob of the Jackson 5, Jermaine. The two bumps heads over Jermaine's record background vocal, and when Jermaine disappears from the studio, Jackie instructs the studio engineer to erase the vocal. Both run home to Mommy, or Mother as they call her, and tattle on each other.
The brothers surprisingly show off their family lives. Jermaine's wife Halima Rashed makes a constant appearance, and many of their children and grandchildren have also been spotlighted. And the matriarch of the family, Katherine Jackson who usually stays away from media attention, has even appeared on the series.
But just as you think that you've finally got a front row seat to the Jackson family drama, you realize that one brother is missing. Randy Jackson, the youngest Jackson brother, has yet to make an appearance on the reality series. He has not even been mentioned which is surprising since he replaced Jermaine when the other brothers, including Michael, left brother Jermaine alone at Motown and signed with Epic Records in 1975.
Randy is not the only missing ingredient from a true Jackson reality show, sisters LaToya and Rebbie, both singers, have not even received a mention on the series. Joseph Jackson, the family patriarch and noted media hog, is also missing. His only presence is in the form of mocking, as Tito often imitates and imitates his tyrannical ways with the brothers.
