Online betting blog Online Casino Advisory reports that in the wake of Guillermo del Toro's defection from the planned two-part The Hobbit film adaptation, online casinos are taking novelty bets on when the first film will see its premiere.

Oddsmakers see chances of the story of Bilbo Baggins reaching the silver screen anytime soon as highly unlikely, leading to a payoff of 500-1 if somehow the film were finished and released before the first of the year. Even a 2011 date for the tale of Bilbo's adventure in Middle Earth [sic] may be almost out of the question, as Internet casinos offer 100-1 gambling odds that the film doesn't come out next year.
Oddsmakers are giving 5-4 odds that the first film premieres at the end of 2012.
Online casinos are also taking bets on the fate of the next film in the James Bond franchise; both Bond and Baggins are tied up in the fate of movie studio MGM, which may soon enter bankruptcy.
