Rowdy Italian Roses for Summer

There is nothing like a cool, refreshing rosé in the heat. They go with everything from crunchy salads to hunks of meat. It is really all I want to drink in the warm weather. Particularly when it is humid, like it is in New Orleans in July (I guess we are all used to it for Tales of the Cocktail) nothing is more delicious.

The French tend to get all the attention but the Italians also make some dynamic rosés. I had a great one at Herbsaint in NOLA a day ago. The 2009 Blsson is fresh and fruity. The restaurant's notes say it smells of fresh meat. I am not quite sure I agree. It's served with two other lovely French roses. I also always love the Cantalupo Mimo Rosé, it's made from Nebbiolo and is available at Morrell's in NY and WIne Library.

Salute,

Any of these wines would go well with Grilled Chicken alla Diavola.
