So I admit I am more excited by cocktails with great Italian-inspired names and the promise of well-balanced Italian base ingredients. A Negroni is an irreplaceable drink, as is a simple Martini Bianco on the rocks.
It was delightful to try the Bella Fragolla at Rickhouse on Kearny yesterday. Cocktail maestro Erick Castro created the drink, which is a mix of berry-flavored gin (click here to see notes on infusing your own), lemon juice, simple syrup and lots of basil leaves. It is topped with soda and served in an Old Fashioned Glass. It was delicious and refreshing on a hot summer day (as hot as it gets around here in July).
This bar remains a delightful oasis in the Financial District, particularly if you go early. A couple other bars to get classic and innovative Italian drinks at include Copa d'Oro in Los Angeles and Nottingham Forest in Milan.
