As we near the end of our blessed month, the highlights of the rituals and traditions we create and relive every Ramadan always seem to make it more difficult to see the month end yet the stories of families and individuals that have made their own Ramadan traditions are inspirations sustaining enough to build on for years to come.
The many wonderfully encouraged and talented Muslims I have been blessed to meet this month have been incredible. The strength and courage of the many Believers who have eagerly shared and given their time, effort, money and gifts to those that are in need is always shown in magnitude during Ramadan however we must make it a priority that the real acts of Brother and Sisterly love is something that we should propagate and strive to continue throughout the year.
The need for our members to fulfill our obligations during this month increases so much of our giving and sharing opportunities that if we look long enough we are all without a doubt to be touched and inspired by something or someone. The sense of gratitude should engulf us all when we look at the situation of others whether it is good or bad because many of us still take for granted that life can change in an instant. The stories of loss of family and property have been known to break the spirit of even the strongest among us and until we are personally faced with loss of any kind, we don’t internalize the impact or life changing affects of it.
To witness the perseverance of a broken mother striving to Please her Lord while she mourns the loss of her child all the while remaining humble, mindful and with great gratitude of all that she has been blessed with is a source of inspiration and a means to reflect on our own situations. The sister that has shared her story of being robbed and then homeless with her children just a year ago and who now owns a flourishing business and is diligently and unselfishly giving back to other Muslims in need has also been equally encouraging. We never know when these will be our own tests.
Periodically I would take the time to listen to the lecture of one of our brothers who has passed away by the name of Abu Uwais, entitled “We need a Ramadan” and I would always be inspired by this lecture because the focus, state of mind and being of the Muslims during this month is encouraged to be the continuous mindset and being of the Muslim always. Coming out of the month of Ramadan in better conditions than how we enter the month is one of the keys to our success.
Be a part of a movement to continue the acts of kindness and love within our community, finding our way back to implementing the real values of sisterhood and brotherhood can only be beneficial. Remember often that we represent one another and that our Ummah (community) resembles “One Body”. As we near the end of this month remember the sisters and brothers who are enduring difficulties that you have yet to endure. Remember the giving and mercy you show to others will be rewarded by Allah (SWT). Be mindful that the smile you give to another is indeed an act of charity. The tales of struggles and triumph of the many Muslims that have been shared during this time has been an awakening of the heart and soul for many of us in addition to the wondrous favor Allah has given us as Muslims. Let us all strive to continue the spread of love we openly share during this month throughout the year and be mindful that although you are not being tested with adversity in your life does not necessarily mean you are not being tested at all.
