This past weekend was fairly quiet in terms of game releases, but then last night had a couple of games of intrigue pop up, such as a game called The Simpsons Arcade Game.

Now don't get as excited as I did upon reading the title. It's not a port of the arcade game from the 90s, the game that took more people's quarters than Dragon's Lair could ever have hoped to. It's a port of another game that features Homer in his zany adventures of finding the elusive doughnuts. What Homer doesn't know is that his strings are being pulled by evil forces in Springfield, and they want to find a particular doughnut far more than he does.

Even though it's not the classic arcade game, the game still looks hilarious and has very crisp graphics. It's $4.99 right now, which is half what typical licensed games of this nature sell for in the App Store.

This game (that provided no screenshots, thank you) is based off of the upcoming Robert Downey, Jr. movie (Could it not be based off the book?). Players take on the role of the famous Sherlock Holmes and tap into his uncanny instincts of observation in order to solve the crimes. The game is priced at $.99 and mentions a full version, so one can easily wonder if this means the $.99 offers only a sample and you have to pay more in-app to get the full version. In addition, only one case is listed right now, so it's also possible that if more stories become available, more payments of $.99 will be required.

Yes, it's another game that looks like a kid drew it on graph paper, but this one actually has an interesting premise. In iGravedigger, you must protect your house from monsters by digging their graves for them to fall into. Swipe down to dig, and swipe up to bury them. There isn't another castle defense game out there with such a zany idea. And best of all, it looks like the protagonist is wearing a Santa hat, so he's ready do go for the holiday season.
