Bombardiers Guild review

Space games, especially those that are physics-based and/or gravity-based, seem to be all the rage right now. Several have made their way to the iPhone, and recently, one debuted in the new PSP Mini library. Bombardiers Guild takes this idea one step further and introduces a physics-based space game like no other.

To fight in the Bombardiers' Guild means that you simply do not fire missiles upon your enemy. It means that when you do fire missiles upon your enemy, you take the planets' gravitational pulls into account. You will make crazy aims and watch your missiles make crazy S-turns and bends and use the planets' gravity to finally hit the target across the space channel.

Basically, this game is another Worms or SNOWARS but with more mind-bending elements of physics than either game could hope to feature. Each level forces you to constantly adjust how you fire at the enemy. You have no idea how your missile is going to react to the gravitational pulls, and then when you finally figure out exactly where to aim and what power level is needed to hit the opposing launcher, you can't keep firing at that angle, because the planets slowly move. This game is a physics-lover's dream, particular a lover of astrophysics.

As such, those who get easily aggravated should save your $1.99 for another game. You may be dazzled by the light show in the first few levels (and it is quite fabulous), but that won't keep you glued to the screen throughout the 500 levels of potentially frustrating gameplay. Now those who think that Worms is not nearly challenging enough and eat up the gravity-based space games will not find a single aspect about Bombardiers Guild frustrating in the slightest. These patrons will devour every second of crazy missile routes and possibly ignore the light show.

Bombardiers Guild excels at everything it does, from the bright and beautiful graphics to the multiplayer option to the solid physics and gravity-based gameplay mechanics. Unfortunately, there is not a lite version, so there's no way to sample the game to find out if it will frustrate or delight you. However, if you have any doubts, it's best to look at other games. This one is a bit hardcore and is definitely not for everyone.
