Grand Theft Auto released on iPhone

Today was a monumental day in the iPhone’s history as a gaming device, as it saw the release of Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars for the iPhone and iPod Touch.  In order to play the game you should have the newest software update on your device.  It is currently on sale for a whopping $10, but is $20 less than the same title on the Nintendo DS or PSP.

The game looks and plays just like on the hand held versions.  Graphics are incredibly well done and the cut scenes have a brilliant cell shaded style to them.  All of the sounds in the game are necessary and accurate, with a soundtrack that can be custom made from your personal music.

The gameplay is much like the game would be on a DS or PSP.  It uses a top down perspective, popular in the first two installments of the series.  The controls on the touch screen are simple, but driving can be a little difficult.  Either way, this adaptation is pretty much the same as every GTA game

Here is a video showcasing the gameplay of Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars:

The biggest conflict with GTA on the iPhone is its high price tag.  While most apps are under $5, this app is $10.  In my personal opinion, GTA games are not the best in the world due to its repetitive gameplay.  You either need to steal a car, kill someone, or deliver a package.  For people that love GTA, I say go and download it.  For everyone else, maybe skip it.  The bottom line is that the most popular third party video game franchise has come to the iPhone, and that will make for a ton of “street cred” towards its rep as a gaming device.
