Apple's Media Event at the Guggenheim: What's in Store?

The Guggenheim Museum in New York is the site of a much talked about media event from Apple on Thursday, January 19th. Speculation is buzzing the internet what the invitation only event will unveil from a possible announcement of the iPad3, or a new Apple TV, to the introduction of an E-book publishing tool.

Whatever the announcement will be, you can be assured that once the information is made public, hundreds of writers will infiltrate the web arena with their own personal take on the new developments. The consensus among industry analysts appears to be that the media event will introduce one or all of Steve Jobs’ final project with Apple: an integrated Apple TV, enhanced technology in iPhone cameras or electronic textbooks.

Here is a sampling of what writers are speculating upon:

Bloomberg.com reports that Apple is poised to tackle the $8-10 billion-a-year textbook industry by making more educational content available for the iPad that will benefit both students and teachers alike.

CNET also suggests that digital textbooks will be announced tomorrow, alluding to Jobs’ autobiography that the co-founder and former CEO of Apple had ”set his sights on textbooks”.

The New York Times also agrees that Apple will jump into the textbook arena by stating that the Cupertino-based technology company will begin “ a much-anticipated foray into the textbook market”.

The Wall Street Journal suggests that the textbook wars are heating up on the heels of Apple’s announcement.

The Huffinton Post also believes that an EBook publishing announcement is in store with the introduction of “iTextbook” publishing.

With so many media giants all speculating on EBooks, what if all these respected media groups are wrong? Chances are it isn’t likely and if they’re right, Amazon, Kno, Inkling and other internet companies that cater to students for electronic versions of their textbooks may be a little nervous. But if they’re wrong, the news will still be big news to come from Apple and experts and consumers will both be salivating on the notion of yet another superior innovation from one of the most valued technology companies in the world.
