Laser technology has seen many technical advances since its inception in the 1960s. The SPIE is an international consortium of engineers dedicated to laser light research. According to their website, "Laser technology has powered remarkable progress in the 50 years since the invention of the first laser in 1960, and even more exciting advances are underway in research institutions and corporate and government labs around the world."
Many of the research topics are now available via the SPIE Digital Library, and on its website. Some topics of note concern Laser optics qualifications for space applications, Lunar laser ranging, and the workhorse CO2 laser.
Open access documents to articles on laser technology that are online include selected material from the SPIE Digital Library, SPIE newsroom videos and podcasts, plus ebook chapters from SPIE press.
SPIE will be holding symposiums around the nation this year, with several taking place in Orlando during April. Today an Electronic Imaging: Science and Techology Symposium is being held in San Jose, Ca. and SPIE will be one of the major participants.
